The Generation 3 iPhone SE 2022 And The Best Way To Protect It
Published by Maaz at Turtleback on Mar 17th 2022
It's the same size as the previous SE, but it's definitely faster! Let’s reveal the details of all-new iPhone SE and the best holster to protect it!
When Will The New iPhone SE Launch?
Apple announced a new third-gen iPhone SE model at its Peek Performance spring event on 8 March 2022. That said, you’ll have to wait a few more days to get the device.
The pre-orders for this series began on 11 March, and you’ll be able to get your hands on the device on March 18.
iPhone SE (2022) Pricing
As compared to the iPhone 13, this model is cheaper: starting at $429. Like always, you’ll pay a different price according to the storage capacity:
- 64GB: $429
- 128GB: $479
- 256GB: $579
On mid-market prices, you get Apple’s premium features and components. However, these prices are still not that low. We’re a little bit disappointed because there were rumors that Apple might bring the real budget smartphone, costing just around $300.
If they did that, it might’ve been another huge hit for the company. But maybe, they’re trying to stay towards “premium” side.
Also, there might be some discounts on these prices. But since the phone is just launched, we wouldn't expect any startling discounts for a month or two. So if you want to save some extra bucks, wait a while before you grab your hands onto it.
One more thing: buy the 64GB iPhone SE only if you think that 64GB will be enough for you. Not everyone is okay with deleting apps and games when they don't use them for a while or keeping their photos and videos on iCloud!
Design
Design-wise, there’s not been many changes. It has the same form factor, based around a 4.7in display and Home button, as on the previous SE model. But still, it’s an iPhone so you get the typical aesthetic vibe.
The iPhone SE stayed the same size despite being in competition with increasingly supersize smartphones. That, plus its powerful combination of prices and features, has a lot to do with its claimed bestseller status.
When the first-gen iPhone SE was launched, it was appreciated for its petite 4-inch frame that was amazingly pocket-friendly. The second-gen iPhone SE was a little bigger, and the company featured the flagship-level A13 Bionic chip, the same chip that powered each of the four iPhone 12 family members, in it. The third-gen iPhone SE has the same size as the second-gen iPhone SE.
This series has two main audiences: One who don’t want to pay ~$1,000 for an iPhone. Second who prefer compact phones. In our opinion, one of the reasons Apple didn’t increase the size is because of its 2nd type of audience.
The company claims that the glass on front and back is now tougher. Also, the glass is a little bit lighter than the previous model!
As far as the color options go, you have three choices: Midnight, Starlight and (Product)Red.
Tech Specs And New Features
If you loved the high-power A15 Bionic chip in the iPhone 13, you’ll be happy to know that the new iPhone SE comes with the same chip. Moreover, the company says that this processor makes new SE 8 times faster than the iPhone 8. However, if you think of it, it may seem an odd comparison because the iPhone 8 came in 2017.
Talking about battery life, "up to 15 hours video playback" claim by Apple sounds like a good deal. However, the company didn’t change battery size to increase battery life; That’s related to the more efficient processor, OS optimizations, and other improvements.
And finally, the big question: Does it have 5G connectivity? Yes, it absolutely does. That makes it by far the cheapest 5G-capable handset in Apple's stable.
When it comes to cameras, it has 12MP on the rear with an f/1.8 wide aperture, and 7MP on the front with f/2.2. It screen specs are 1334x750 at 326ppi. Both of these specs are same as the SE 2.
However, cameras have different, more improved features now that were not available on the SE 2. Smart HDR 4, Deep Fusion, Photographic Styles and slo-mo video at 1080p and 120fps are to name a few.
Looking Ahead: Will There Be An iPhone SE Plus?
The short answer is that there might be. There has been a lot of rumors regarding a larger iPhone SE. In April 2020, Tech YouTuber Jon Prosser has talked about it on Twitter. Display analyst Ross Young speculated that the iPhone SE Plus could be coming this year.
But are these rumors true? If the next iPhone SE is large, how large will it be? Will it disturb its user base? We’ll have to wait and find out!
